Conclusion

This project attempted to utilize blogging technology in a specific, unique way. The blog lends itself well to collecting and managing responses to images. These comments clearly outline popular and iconic spaces on campus. For example, sites within Main Building and the center of the Quad were recognized by almost every participant, probably because students spend a great deal of time in these spaces. Shakespeare Garden was not well recognized, though the iconic sun dial at its center was identified correctly nearly every time.

The collective images represent a text about my vision of Vassar as a space. In combining this text with comments from others, the blog facilitates a discourse on the perception and use of Vassar’s communal spaces. Reading the responses reveals a trend in methods of recognition and plotting them on a map clearly outlines the more familiar paths cut through Vassar’s distinct ‘places’.

Here are the results of the survey from the first couple weeks, color-coded and plotted over campus on a scale from red (100% correct guessing) to purple:
